Ward named Assistant AD for Compliance
Georgia Southwestern State University announced today that Christie Ward has joined the Hurricane staff as Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance. Ward comes to GSW from the Americus law firm of Gatewood, Skipper & Rambo, P.C., where she was a practicing attorney the past two years.
"I am very excited to working at GSW," Ward said. "I have always had a passion for sports and I fell like this opportunity will allow me to combine my passion for sports with the skills that I have acquired as a practicing attorney."
Ward, a native of Americus, graduated from Southland Academy in 1999 prior to playing collegiate softball for the nationally ranked National Junior College Athletic Association program at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton.
After graduating from ABAC, Ward returned to Americus to finish her softball career and undergraduate education at GSW. In her two seasons, Christie was an Academic All-American and an All-Georgia-Alabama-Carolina Conference player. She finished her GSW career with a .309 batting average, six doubles, three triples and 49 runs batted in.
Ward graduated from GSW in 2003 with a Bachelor of Science degree in political science. She continued her education at John Marshall Law School in Atlanta where she was president of the Sports and Entertainment Law Society. Ward graduated from JMLS in May 2007 with a Juris Doctor degree.
GSW Director of Athletics Jaclyn Kaylor is more than confident that Ward is the right person for the job.
"With her intelligence and work ethic, Christie will excel in this position and the entire athletics department will reap the benefits," Kaylor said. "It's great to have a former student-athlete coming back to be a Hurricane again."
Ward is the daughter of Eddie and Betty Ward.
