AMERICUS, Ga. – Georgia Southwestern State University has named Matt Ensor its Assistant Sports Information Director for the 2011-12 academic year. Ensor comes to Americus after spending the previous year as a graduate assistant in the Athletic Communications office at Virginia Commonwealth University.
“Matt stood out from a large pool of qualified candidates during the interview process. He brings a lot of valuable and unique experience from his time at VCU. That well-rounded experience included his familiarity with the PrestoSports content management system and StatCrew statistical software. With the valuable addition of a staff member like Matt, I am excited about the opportunities we can pursue in the Sports Information office here at GSW,” said Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Information Keith Michlig.
While at VCU, Ensor was the secondary media contact for the men’s basketball program’s historic run to the Final Four of the 2011 NCAA Tournament. He also assisted with many of VCU’s other sports programs during his time in Richmond.
He will be the primary media contact for the Hurricanes’ men’s soccer, women’s basketball and softball teams. His other responsibilities include assisting with the sports information needs of all of other teams and the day-to-day operations of the Sports Information office.
“I am excited to join the athletic department here at Georgia Southwestern,” said Ensor. “I had a tremendous experience working at VCU last year and hope to carry that same excitement to Americus. I really look forward to working with the coaches, student-athletes and administrators here at GSW.”
A native of Eugene, Oregon, Ensor graduated from the University of Oregon with a bachelor’s degree in Journalism. He is currently finishing his master’s degree from the Center for Sport Leadership at VCU.
