No. 12 Augusta State sweeps Lady 'Canes
The Georgia Southwestern softball team was swept in a Saturday evening doubleheader (11-0, 3-1) by No. 12 Augusta State at Lady Canes Field. Gabby Buck finished the day 2-for-4 with a solo home run to lead Southwestern at the plate. Buck and Brooke McLemore were the only GSW hitters to pick up a hit in both games.

Rollins takes two from Lady 'Canes
The Georgia Southwestern softball team lost both games of a Monday afternoon doubleheader (3-0, 13-4) against Rollins College at Lady Canes Field. Megan Wilkinson finished the day 2-for-4 with a triple, RBI and run scored to lead Southwestern at the plate. Gabby Buck was the only GSW hitter to pick up a hit in both games as she went 2-for-6 with a run scored and a RBI in the doubleheader.

Hurricanes complete series sweep of Montevallo, 17-8
Bud Long went 3-for-4 with a three-run double and a three-run home run to lead Georgia Southwestern to a 17-8 win and a Peach Belt Conference series sweep of Montevallo on Sunday afternoon at Hurricane Stadium. GSW hitters erupted for 44 runs and 41 hits in the three-game set.

27 runs & another gem from Sellars leads GSW to DH sweep
Plenty of offense and plenty of good pitching. The Georgia Southwestern baseball had plenty of both in a doubleheader sweep (17-8, 10-1) of Montevallo on Saturday afternoon at Hurricane Stadium. Byron Haynes went yard for the Hurricanes in game 1, while Trent Dooley and Bud Long each belted three-run home runs for GSW in the nightcap. Jody Sellars (4-0) pitched a complete-game gem in game 2, scattering six hits. With UM scoring an unearned run, Sellars' ERA remains at 0.00 after 28 innings of work this spring.

GSW falls a point shy of the PBC Final Four, loses to No. 1 seed in OT
The Georgia Southwestern women's basketball team had the top seed in the Peach Belt Conference West Division on the ropes in the second half Tuesday night, but was unable to deliver the knockout blow and the hosts from Georgia College rallied to defeat the Lady 'Canes 60-59 in overtime of the quarterfinals of the PBC Tournament at the Centennial Center.

Milstid earns PBC Pitcher of the Week honors
Georgia Southwestern junior Tiffany Milstid has been named the Peach Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week for the week ending February 28. Milstid went 2-0 for the Lady Hurri¬canes, allowing no runs in seven innings pitched. She held hitters to a .130 average with six strikeouts.

Lady 'Canes qualify for postseason
The Georgia Southwestern women's basketball team clinched the fourth seed in the PBC West Division on Saturday and will face the division's top seed, Georgia College on Tuesday evening (3/2) at 7 p.m. in Milledgeville. The spot in the PBC Tourney is GSW's first since joining the NCAA in 2006. It's a remarkable turnaround for a program that was 1-26 only two seasons ago.

A skills camp for ages 7-12 will be held on December 19 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. High school players have the opportunity to showcase their talents in front of coaches from several colleges and universities at a high school prospect camp on January 9.

The Georgia Southwestern men's golf team shot a final-round 324 to finish tied for 11th place at the Outback Steakhouse Intercollegiate on Tuesday afternoon at the Hombre Golf Club in Panama City Beach, Fla. The Hurricanes finished the two-day tournament with a 625 total, 40 strokes behind team champion Columbus State. GSW was only nine strokes out of the lead after day one, but struggled on the tournaments final day in the 16-team field.

The Peach Belt Conference and its internet broadcasting partner Penn Atlantic have announced that beginning with games played on Monday, Feb. 2., all PBC games will be available for free. Prior to this, games had been available on a pay-per-view basis but continued expansion at Penn Atlantic will allow all games to be viewed for free with revenues generated from advertising.

The Cougars received seven of the ten first-place votes as voted on by the conference coaches earlier this week. GSW, which beat the Cougars in amazing fashion in the final game of the season - an 8-7 win in 14 innings - was picked to finish last.

Canes Move Up to Finish 2nd
The GSW blue team shaved 17 shots off their day one score to finish runner-up at the Hurricane Classic at Griffin Bell Golf Links in Americus on Monday afternoon. Michael Harris shot the low round of the entire tournament with a 6-under-par (65) and Adam McKenney posted a 1-under (70) to lead the Hurricanes.

Fall Golf Season Tees Off on Sunday
The 2008-09 mens golf season will begin this Sunday, September 14 with the Hurricane Classic at Griffin Bell Golf Links. This year the Canes are lead by three returning seniors, Jordan Britt, Michael Harris, and Adam McKinney. They have the entire squad coming back from last year plus two new freshmen, Troy Batten and Robbie Brinson.

Clayton State Named Preseason PBC Pick
By the slimmest possible margin, the Clayton State Lakers have been selected as the mens soccer team to beat in the Peach Belt Conference in a poll of the leagues head coaches. The Lakers took three first-place and three second-place votes to beat Lander, who had three first, two second and a third, by one point. USC Aiken was third, coming in one point ahead of fourth-place UNC Pembroke. Francis Marion, North Georgia and GSW rounded out the voting.

Columbus State Tabbed as Womens Cross Country Favorite
The CSU womens cross country team has been selected as the preseason team to beat in a preseason poll of the leagues head coaches released by the Peach Belt Conference today. The Lady Cougars took seven of nine first-place votes to finish ahead of Augusta State with GCSU in third. Lander, Clayton State, USC Aiken, North Georgia, UNC Pembroke, Francis Marion and GSW were next.

Student-Athletes Recognized at Spring Banquet
The Georgia Southwestern Department of Athletics honored its student-athletes Monday evening at the spring athletic banquet in the Storm Dome on the campus of GSW. Andrew Whiggum (Baseball) was named Male Scholar Athlete of the Year, while Kassi Reneau (Softball) was named Female Scholar Athlete of the Year.

ROCKVILLE, Md. - Georgia Southwestern University, a member of the Peach Belt Conference, has chosen PrestoSports for its new athletics web site solution. Members of the Hurricanes athletics team have worked closely with PrestoSports to begin the process for a new web site which is expected to launch later this year.
