The Georgia Southwestern soccer teams will host a "Kick Out Cancer" doubleheader on Saturday at Hurricane Field against Lander University. Fans are encouraged to wear pink. Commemorative pink t-shirts are on sale at the GSW bookstore for $10 and will be available at the field on Saturday with the entire purchase price being donated to Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

Men's basketball releases 2011-12 schedule
Georgia Southwestern head men's basketball coach Mike Leeder has released the program's 2011-12 schedule that features 13 games at home, nine on the road and four contests at neutral sites. GSW is coming off of a 20-9 campaign where the Hurricanes won the Peach Belt Conference West Division regular season title and earned the program's first NCAA Tournament birth. Southwestern returns three of its top four scorers, including All-American and reigning PBC Player of the Year Phillip Brown, reigning PBC Freshman of the Year Colin Slotter and 2008-09 PBC Freshman of the Year Evan Mobley.

Gahman makes cut, finishes 32nd at Georgia Amateur
Georgia Southwestern standout Nate Gahman shot a final round 3-over-par 73 on Sunday at Cherokee Town and Country Club in Atlanta to finish the 90th annual Georgia Amateur Championship tied for 32nd place with a four-day total of 294.

A look back at 2010-11
The 2010-11 academic year proved to be one of milestones and memories for the Georgia Southwestern Athletics Department as the Hurricanes enjoyed their most successful year in Division II since making the move from NAIA to NCAA in 2006-07. Improvements came on the field, as GSW saw a 27.7 percent increase in total wins from 2009-10, and in the classroom, as the Hurricanes had a 47.1 percent jump in All-Academic selections.

Georgia Southwestern State University head women’s basketball coach Kelly Britsky has released the program’s 2011-12 schedule that features 13 games at home, 10 on the road and three contests at neutral sites. GSW is coming off of a 12-14 campaign and the Lady Hurricanes face a challenging schedule this winter as their opponents combined to finish 112 games over .500 (418-306) last season.

65 GSW student-athletes named to PBC Presidential Honor Roll
The Peach Belt Conference has announced that 1,058 student-athletes have been named to the Presidential Honor Roll with a total of 65 GSW student-athletes earning the honor in 2010-11, a five percent increase for the Hurricanes from last year's total.

GSW golfers fare well in summer qualifiers
Georgia Southwestern golfers Nate Gahman and J.P. Griffin qualified for the 2011 Georgia Amateur Championship on Friday morning with scores of 69 and 72, respectively, at Doublegate Country Club in Albany. Gahman's 3-under par round earned medalist honors at the 44-player event. Senior Chris Hall and Hurricane head coach Andrew Danna both qualified for the YAMAHA Atlanta Open Georgia PGA tournament earlier this week.

Thursday evening (3/17), Zeta Tau Alpha is hosting "Pack the Park in Pink" at the GSW baseball and softball games in an effort to raise money for breast cancer awareness and education. GSW finishes 8th at Argonaut Invitational
The Georgia Southwestern golf team moved up one spot on Tuesday from its Day 1 position to finish eighth at the 14-team Argonaut Invitational played at Pensacola Country Club. Nate Gahman shot a final-round 1-over 73 for the Hurricanes to finish 1-over for the 54-hole tournament and remain tied for sixth out of 74 participants.

There was no shortage of drama as the White team stormed out to an early two-games-to-none lead, only to see the Blue team rally to win the next three games and lock down their fifth straight series win.

Lady Hurricanes move up at conference meet
The Georgia Southwestern cross country team finished ninth out of 10 teams on Saturday at the Peach Belt Conference championship meet in Evans, Ga. Kelsey Baker led the way for GSW, finishing the 6k race 48th with a time of 28:30. It was the first time in three years of NCAA competition that GSW finished ahead of another school at the conference championships.

62 Hurricane student-athletes named to PBC Presidential Honor Roll
The Peach Belt Conference has announced that 1,079 student-athletes have been named to the Presidential Honor Roll from the league office in Augusta. A total of 62 GSW student-athletes earned the honor in 2009-10, a nine percent increase from last year's total.

Former Georgia Southwestern third baseman Zack Stanton signed a contract to play professionally for the Frontier Leagues Evansville (Ind.) Otters on Monday (June 14). He made his debut Monday evening for the Otters and contributed immediately going 2-for-5 with two stolen bases and two runs scored as Evansville downed Gateway 10-6.

Chris Carroll, Brandon Reeder and Chris Hawes held West Florida batters in check on Wednesday afternoon, allowing only one earned run, in a 5-2 victory over the 29th-ranked Argonauts at Hurricane Stadium. Carroll, the team leader in saves, made his first start of 2010. Reeder picked up the win and Hawes notched his first save of the spring. GSW improved to 20-0 this season when leading after six innings.

Georgia Southwestern took two of three weekly Peach Belt Conference softball awards as junior Lyndi Duff was named Player of the Week and sophomore Jessica Martin was the Pitcher of the Week for the week ending April 4. The Lady 'Canes become only the third school this season to have multiple winners in the weekly softball release. Duff hit .667 with two home runs - including a grand slam - and eight RBIs as GSW went 3-1 last week. Martin earned a pair of complete-game wins and posted a 0.00 ERA.

Ward named Assistant AD for Compliance

The power of pink
The GSW men's basketball team installed the 2-3 zone defense for the first time this season on Tuesday, and it worked just enough against Clayton State. Southwestern made 10 3-pointers of its own and held Clayton State to 34 percent shooting in the second half as the Hurricanes staved off the Lakers for a 65-61 win in front of a raucous student section at the Storm Dome Wednesday in part with the Pink Zone event for breast cancer awareness.

Lady 'Canes rally to win season-opener
GSW came back from a 4-0 deficit to defeat Albany State 6-4 in eight innings in the first game of the GSW Invitational. Freshman Jessica Martin pitched 5.1 innings of scoreless ball to get the win. Canes finish tied for 11th at Outback Steakhouse Intercollegiate
The Georgia Southwestern men's golf team shot a final-round 324 to finish tied for 11th place at the Outback Steakhouse Intercollegiate on Tuesday afternoon at the Hombre Golf Club in Panama City Beach, Fla. The Hurricanes finished the two-day tournament with a 625 total, 40 strokes behind team champion Columbus State. GSW was only nine strokes out of the lead after day one, but struggled on the tournaments final day in the 16-team field.

Peach Belt Conference, Penn Atlantic to begin free internet broadcasting
The Peach Belt Conference and its internet broadcasting partner Penn Atlantic have announced that beginning with games played on Monday, Feb. 2., all PBC games will be available for free. Prior to this, games had been available on a pay-per-view basis but continued expansion at Penn Atlantic will allow all games to be viewed for free with revenues generated from advertising.

Junior Service League donates to GSW scholarship
The Junior Service League (JSL) of Americus recently made a donation to the Georgia Southwestern Foundation's Evan Bozof Athletic Scholarship Fund. With a gift of $20,000 the JSL not only supported education but helped raise awareness for a deadly disease known as meningococcal meningitis.

Brittany Reynolds was one of four players who were on the court when Georgia Southwestern won its last conference game a 76-75 overtime win at Augusta State on Feb. 24, 2007. The streak of 30-consecutive conference losses came to an end on Wednesday when Reynolds scored 18 points to lead Georgia Southwestern past North Georgia, 76-64.

The Cougars received seven of the ten first-place votes as voted on by the conference coaches earlier this week. GSW, which beat the Cougars in amazing fashion in the final game of the season - an 8-7 win in 14 innings - was picked to finish last.
