Hugh Yaughn, Baseball (1967-1971)

Hugh played catcher and outfielder under GSW Hall of Fame coach Godfrey Knight. He led the ‘Canes in hitting his freshman (.322) and junior (.343) seasons, during which time he struck out a mere eight times. Hugh recently retired from a successful teaching and coaching career after 39 years. He was named the “Teacher of the Year” five times, a region “Athletic Director of the Year” two times and the Georgia High School Association AA “Athletic Director of the Year” in 2008. In addition, Hugh has been named region “Coach of the Year” eight times over four different sports during his coaching career. He has coached football, baseball, girls basketball, boys basketball and softball. His hobbies include fishing, playing with his grandkids and working at Clemson football games (his son has been the equipment supervisor for 16 years). He currently lives in Statesboro, Ga. with his wife of 40 years, Jackie. They have two children and five grandchildren.
