GSW completes series sweep with 12-inning win
AMERICUS - The Georgia Southwestern baseball team completed a three-game weekend sweep of Saint Leo with an 8-7 12-inning win Sunday afternoon in the series finale at Hurricane Stadium.
The Hurricanes opened the game with three consecutive singles and jumped on the Lions early with four runs in the bottom of the first inning. Jared Allen's sacrifice fly brought in Beau Parker for the first run of the game. Andrew Archer drove home John Duran with a single and Paschel Poston plated a pair with his double to right field.
The Lions scored a run in the fourth and another in the seventh to tie the game at 5-5.
Allen doubled in the bottom of the seventh to give GSW another two-run cushion, but Saint Leo responded with two of its own in the eighth.
Allen accounted for the only hit from either team over the next three innings and the game remained tied until the bottom of the 12th.
The Hurricanes loaded the bases and Duran scored from third on an infield hit from Andrew Anderson to take the ballgame.
Duran and Coffey collected three hits apiece to lead GSW. Parker, Allen and Poston tallied two hits apiece.
Gray Carden (2-0) earned the win with 4 2/3 innings of scoreless relief. He did not allow a run or a hit and struck out six.
Ryan Brnovich, Frank Rawdow and Jason Hamm each had two hits for Saint Leo (3-6).
Austin Buck (0-1) gets charged with the loss after allowing one unearned run in 1 2/3 innings of relief. He struck out three and walked one.
GSW (6-6) travels to Albany State on Tuesday for a non-conference game at 3 p.m.
