AMERICUS - Georgia Southwestern baseball head coach Bryan McLain recently announced the signing of Westfield's Lane Dixon during the NCAA early signing period.
Dixon, a 6-foot-2, 205 pound first baseman from The Westfield School in Perry, Ga. will join the Hurricanes baseball program in the fall of 2011. He is a left-handed hitter and thrower.
As a junior at Westfield, Dixon hit .416 and helped lead the Hornets to the second round of the state playoffs and was named All-Region.
"We are excited about the addition of Lane to our program," said McClain, "He is an outstanding high school hitter and we think he has the potential to be a middle of the lineup threat from the left side in the years to come. Lane is also an outstanding student and most importantly an outstanding young man."
The Hurricanes begin spring practice on Jan. 7 and open up the 2011 season at home against Valdosta State University on Feb. 1 at 5 p.m.
