Georgia Southwestern guard Anthony Sargent has been named to the Peach Belt Conference 2007-08 men’s basketball All-Conference team.

GSW’s Sargent Named Peach Belt Conference Player of the Week
Anthony Sargent, a junior guard from Indianapolis, was selected as the Peach Belt Conference Player of the Week in Men’s Basketball. Sargent lit up the scoreboards in three games last week, averaging 22.3 points and 7.0 rebounds per game as the Hurricanes went 1-2.

The Hurricanes of Georgia Southwestern State University took to the floor Saturday afternoon in their last home stand of the season against the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. GSW – with all eight players dressed and ready – fought its way to a 63-41 victory over the Braves.

Bobcats Escape with Victory over 'Canes
With the team hampered yet again by illness, it was another neck-and-neck fight to the buzzer Wednesday night for the Hurricanes of Georgia Southwestern State University. GSW clawed its way through a hard-fought Peach Belt Conference contest against Georgia College & State University, but it was the Bobcats who emerged victorious 59-58.

GSW Basketball Drops Two to USC-Aiken at Homecoming
Homecoming was unfortunately not as sweet as the GSW Basketball had hoped it would be. The Lady Canes fell to the Lady Pacers of USC-Aiken by a score of 75-33, and the Pacers took a win from the Hurricanes 89-68.

With only seven players dressed out Saturday afternoon, Hurricane Head Coach Mike Leeder took to the floor Saturday afternoon against Peach Belt Conference opponent Francis Marion University and emerged victorious 70-64.

Showtime in the Storm Dome
The GSW Canes hosted the Columbus Cougars, in front of one of the largest crowds that the Storm Dome has seen, for their conference opener. The Canes trailed for the majority of the night, and at one point were down by 9 points.

Canes Win Three Straight
Once again, the Canes came into the Storm Dome with their game faces on. They managed to bag another victory, in what began as a tightly contested game. The Canes fought it out, winning over Florida Memorial by a score of 89-77.

Hurricanes start their season with a win over Carver Bible
On a chilly night, Georgia Southwestern’s men’s team warmed things up in their season opener. They convincingly defeated the visiting Carver Bible College team, with a score of 106-84.

HURRICANE SOCCER to Celebrate Youth Soccer Month
AMERICUS, GA (Sept. 5, 2007) – Come celebrate Youth Soccer Month with Georgia Southwestern Lady Canes this Saturday. The Lady Canes will face off against Nova Southeastern Lady Sharks on Sept. 8th at Hurricane Field. The game will begin at 2:00 pm with preliminary game at 11:00 am featuring the U13 girls from Red Star Soccer Club and the Alpharetta Stars.
