GSW men's basketball head coach Mike Leeder announced today that Chris Rawls, a 6-foot-7 190 pound forward from Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., has been added to the 2008-09 active roster.
"Chris has done a good job at getting acclimated to school these first two months, and we are excited that he is now eligible to compete with the rest of our players," said Leeder. "We are very excited that Chris has chosen to finish his career at GSW after a two-year absence from school."
Rawls, who will be a junior for the Hurricanes this season, averaged 19.1 points and 10.1 rebounds per game at Polk Community College. He last played for the Vikings in 2005-06 and was a first team All-Suncoast Conference and first team All-State Florida junior college selection. Rawls led the state in free throw attempts and had 10 or more rebounds in 19 of 29 games as a sophomore.
"Chris will be an outstanding addition to the forward spot at both ends of the floor and we look forward to blending his talents with the rest of our players," said Leeder. "He is an explosive athlete that we feel could cause matchup problems for some of the forwards that we compete against."
The 2008-09 season kicks off Saturday, November 15 against Puerto Rico-Cayey. The game will be played at Valdosta State and tip-off time is 4 p.m.
Personal Note: Chris graduated from Dillard High School in Fort Lauderdale
