AMERICUS - There's a newcomer in the National Association of Basketball Coaches' NCAA Division II men's basketball poll. For the first time in school history, Georgia Southwestern has been listed amongst the nation's best. The Hurricanes received a pair of votes in the poll, released on Tuesday afternoon, only eight votes behind No. 25 Alaska-Anchorage.
GSW joins Augusta State (ranked fifth) and Montevallo (two votes) as the Peach Belt Conference schools recognized in this week's rankings.
The Hurricanes (8-3, 1-1 PBC) are coming off a week where they lost in overtime to then-No. 13 USC Aiken, 75-72, and won at West Alabama, 60-50, and at then-No. 19 Montevallo, 65-55.
Their other two losses this season have come at the hands of Division I opponents, Kennesaw State and Auburn.
GSW is back in action on Wednesday evening, travelling to Georgia College for a 7:30 p.m. matchup.
