AMERICUS - Georgia Southwestern State University head men's basketball coach Mike Leeder has announced the addition of Darius Redding to the Hurricane squad for the 2013-14 season.
Redding, a 6-foot-4, 210-pound guard/forward, transfers to GSW after spending two seasons at NCAA Division I member Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, La.
"We are extremely excited to add a player of Darius' ability to our roster," said Leeder. "He is extremely athletic and should be able to come in and contribute on both ends of the floor immediately."
As a freshman at LA Tech, Redding appeared in 27 games and was playing his best basketball as the season came to an end. He totaled 10 points at Nevada and had 11 points and five rebounds against Northwestern State. His best game came on March 18, 2010, in the CIT Postseason Tournament when he totaled 13 points, eight rebounds and two assists over 33 minutes in an upset win against Southern Mississippi.
Redding averaged six points and three rebounds per game while playing 22 minutes per contest his sophomore season. He scored 10 points against Navy and had six points, five rebounds and five assists in a win over UC Irvine, as well as 10 points and four rebounds against the University of Houston.
"Darius is a guy that we feel will be one of the better athletes in our league," added Leeder. "He is a proven producer at the Division I level and we look forward to blending his abilities with our returning players."
Redding, a Tallahassee, Fla. native will have two seasons of eligibility left at GSW.
