'Canes finish seventh at PBC Tourney

The Georgia Southwestern golf team finished the 2008-09 season with a seventh place finish at the Peach Belt Conference Tournament on Tuesday at Little River Golf Club in Carthage, N.C.

Senior Adam McKenney finished the 54-hole tournament tied for 9th place with a four-over-par 220 total to lead the 'Canes. Reese Moseley finished tied for 24th place and was six strokes off of McKenney's pace with a 10-over-par 226 total. Seniors Michael Harris (228) and Jordan Britt (236) completed the Hurricanes scoring in their final collegiate rounds.

Southwestern (904), making its first tournament appearance, finished 38 strokes behind No. 15-ranked Clayton State (866), who won the team title. Six of the Peach Belt's eight men's golf teams are nationally ranked, including No. 1 (Columbus State) and No. 2 (Georgia College). GSW finished ahead of host UNC Pembroke.

Clayton State collected eight birdies on the final nine holes to rally and win the championship. Columbus State and GCSU were tied at even par entering the final nine, but neither could hold off the Lakers, who shot a round-three tournament low 288 to win by four strokes. Columbus State finished second five strokes back, followed by GCSU in third, seven back. Clayton State wins their first-ever PBC golf championship.

Wade Binfield from Clayton State won individual medalist honors with a two-day total of 210 (67-70-73).
