Georgia Southwestern sophomore Craig Gibson was named Peach Belt Conference Golfer of the Week this afternoon by the conference office.
Gibson won the 21-team AFLAC/Cougar Invitational on Tuesday with a tournament-low round of 65. He opened the tournament with a 71 on Monday, then birdied four holes and had an eagle in his bogey-free second round for the six-under 65. The 65 is the lowest single round shot in the Peach Belt so far this season and propelled Gibson to a one-stroke victory over Valdsota State's Chesley Gunn. He made up 28 spots from round one to round two and is now fourth in the PBC with a 71.2 stroke average.
Gibson, from Brooks, Alberta, Canada, becomes the second GSW golfer to win an athlete of the week award from the PBC since the Hurricanes began competing in the conference in the fall of 2006. Adam McKenney was named PBC Golfer of the Week on September 26, 2008.
The Hurricanes complete their fall schedule by participating in the Queens Invitational at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., beginning Monday.
