Gibson named PBC Golfer of the Week
AMERICUS - Georgia Southwestern's Craig Gibson has been named the Peach Belt Conference Golfer of the Week for the second time in his career. Gibson won the 90-player Aflac/Cougar Invitational on Tuesday after finishing the three-round event 2-under par.
The senior had finished in a tie for second in his last two events, but broke through in Columbus and won the Aflac/Cougar for the second time in the last three years. His efforts helped the Hurricanes to a team victory in the 17-team tournament in which 15 of the teams were either ranked or received votes in the latest Golf World/Nike Golf NCAA Division II Coaches' Poll Top 25.
Gibson's 68 in the second round is one of three shot in the PBC this season and is tied for the fifth-lowest single round in the league. His score of 211 is the second-lowest 54-hole tournament by a player in the league this year.
The Brooks, Alberta native is now third in the PBC with a 72.1 stroke average.
This week in October has been good to the GSW golf team over the past three years as the Hurricanes have won the PBC Golfer of the Week each season (Gibson - Oct. 9, 2009, Griffin - Oct. 7, 2010).
Gibson and the Hurricanes wrap up their fall schedule Oct. 24-25 at the Laker Invitational in Hampton.
