EATONTON - Craig Gibson fired a 5-under 65 on Tuesday morning to help the 5th-ranked Georgia Southwestern men's golf team climb three slots and finish 11th at the 17-team Bobcat Intercollegiate hosted by Georgia College. Christopher Hall led the Hurricanes with a two-day, three-round total of 2-over 212 at the par-70, 6,847-yard Golf Club at Cuscowilla.
Hall shot rounds of 69, 70 and 73 to pace the Hurricanes. He tied for 16th in the 90-player field. Gibson's final-round 65 tied for the tournament's low round. His overall 216 score tied for 31st. Travis Oeastmann finished thee strokes behind Gibson (72-73-74), while teammates Nate Gahman (72-70-78) and J.P. Griffin (78-75-76) tied for 47th and 75th, respectively.
The tournament field was the strongest GSW had seen this year with 12 teams ranked in the top 25 and another pair receiving votes in the latest NCAA Division II Coaches' Poll. The Hurricanes finished ahead of two ranked squads (No. 15 USC Aiken and No. 16 Carson-Newman) and both programs receiving votes (Columbus State and Valdosta State).
GSW finished 32 strokes behind 3rd-ranked Barry University for the top spot in the team standings.
Lynn University's Daniel Young charged from three strokes back to win the individual title after his 2-under 68 on Tuesday and 8-under 202 total.
The Hurricanes return to the links on Monday for the Bearcat Classic in Greenwood, S.C.
