DESTIN, Fla. - The 25st-ranked Georgia Southwestern men's golf team shot a 10-over-par 298 on Tuesday at the Indian Bayou Classic to move up one spot from Day 1 and finish the tournament in fourth place out of 10 teams.
Nate Gahman led the Hurricanes with a final-round even-par 72 to finish sixth overall in the 60-player field. Gahman shot a two-round total of 145 at the 7,078-yard Indian Bayou Golf Club. The senior from Leesburg, Ga. played the par 4s well tying for third with an even 4.0 average.
The par 3s presented the biggest challenge to GSW over the tournament as the Hurricanes ranked seventh out of the 10 participating schools with a 3.38 scoring average.
GSW ranked third with a collective 108 pars over the two rounds, but slipped to ninth in birdies with only 18.
Andrew Ritchot carded a 74 on Tuesday and climbed eight slots in the standings to finish tied for 39th. Anders Olson and Matthew Whittaker posted final-round 76s and finished the tournament tied for 25th and 31st, respectively.
No. 19 Columbus State shaved two strokes off its deficit but came up a stroke behind No. 4 North Alabama for the team championship. UNA shot a two-round total of 587. Southwestern ended with a 598.
Austin Grey from Saint Leo defeated North Alabama's Ricky Stimets in a playoff to capture the individual title with a 2-under-par 142.
GSW returns to the links on Monday for the first two rounds of the TVA Credit Union Classic hosted by North Alabama at Turtle Point Yacht & Country Club in Killen, Ala.
