'Canes lead PBC with six on All-Academic team
The Georgia Southwestern men's soccer team had a league-high six players selected to the Peach Belt Conference All-Academic team, the league announced recently.
Ethan Vick, a first team selection, started 13 games for the Hurricanes in 2009. The sophomore from Coolidge, Ga. logged 1069 minutes of playing time, took three shots and recorded one assist. He is a Business major.
Senior Jesse Davis led five Hurricanes with second team honors. Davis started all 18 matches in the midfield for GSW. The St. Joseph, Trinidad and Tobago native tied for the team lead with two goals on the season. He finished second on the team in shots (22) and assists (2). A Chemistry major, Davis logged 1337 minutes of playing time.
Fellow senior Michael Moses started 15 matches in 2009 and played 1363 minutes on the pitch as a midfielder for Southwestern. Moses, an English major from Marietta, tied for the team lead with two goals.
Yimi Reyes, a junior midfielder from Rome, Ga., played in all 18 games for the Hurricanes this season. A Management major, Reyes notched one assist in 1005 minutes of action.
Kacey Barnard, a junior from Macon, played in 15 games as a forward for the Hurricanes this season. The exercise science major scored one goal.
Kevin Huet, a Health and Physical Education major, played in 13 matches for the Hurricanes in 2009. The sophomore defender from Conyers, started nine contests.
The team is part of a season-long program recognizing the outstanding accomplishments of PBC student-athletes in the classroom as well as on the field.
To be eligible for the All-Academic team, a student-athlete must 1) participate in at least half of his/her team's events and be either a starter or significant contributor; 2) achieved a 3.20 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) and 3) completed at least one full academic year at his or her current institution. The Peach Belt Conference Sports Information Directors oversee and select the teams.
