Softball field getting facelift
Lady 'Canes Field is undergoing its first major improvement project since being constructed in 1999.
Included in this summer's checklist:
- The infield was recently laser graded, improving the playing surface and drainage.
- Approximately a three-foot-wide strip of sod running down the baselines and around home plate was removed.
- Three rolls of sod are currently being placed behind the shortstop area of the infield, leveling the area and removing a "lip" that had formed over years of use.
- Finally, a new six-foot-tall outfield fence will be installed by mid-July, running from foul pole-to-foul pole, meeting NCAA standards and accommodating signage. Any business, group or parent interested in purchasing a sign (4' x 6') for the 2009-10 school year should contact the softball office at 229-931-2174.
