FORT VALLEY, Ga. - Georgia Southwestern scored 25 runs giving up just one to Fort Valley State Thursday afternoon in doubleheader action as the Lady 'Canes swept the Lady Wildcats to improve their record to 11-5 on the season.
Game 1: GSW 11, FVSU 1
In the first game, the Lady Hurricanes jumped out to an early 5-0 advantage after four innings of play.
Fort Valley State scored their only run of the twin bill in the bottom of the sixth inning to inch closer.
GSW quickly responded scoring six runs in the top of the seventh inning to easily put away the Lady Wildcats 11-1.
GSW's bats lit up for 13 hits on the outing with senior Janna Anderson and sophomore Shelley Sweatt pacing the Lady 'Canes with three hits a piece while junior Mason Moreland accounted for two hits of her own for the Blue and Gold.
Junior third baseman Jordan Miller and Anderson each had two RBIs for Southwestern.
GSW (10-5) starting pitcher Allison Pastor (6-2) had a dominate outing for the Lady Hurricanes as the junior threw a complete game, giving up three runs while striking out nine.
Game 2: GSW 14, FVSU 0
The Lady Hurricanes were just getting started as Southwestern proved to be even more dominate in the second game as the Blue and Gold scored 14 runs on 10 hits and shut out FVSU for an easy 14-0 shortened, five-inning victory.
Moreland paced GSW (11-5) with four hits and three RBIs on the outing giving her a total of six hits on the afternoon.
Starting GSW pitcher Erin Vick (2-2) was credited with the win for the Lady Hurricanes as the junior tossed five innings, striking out six Lady Wildcats.
Southwestern's 14 runs were the most runs scored by a Lady 'Cane team since a 14-4 triumph of Brewton-Parker College on Feb. 6, 2011.
Georgia Southwestern looks to continue their four-game winning streak as they travel to take on ninth-ranked Rollins College Saturday afternoon in doubleheader action starting at 6 p.m.
This will be the second meeting of the year as the two teams split the doubleheader at Lady 'Cane Field earlier this season.
