Lady 'Canes basketball welcomes new faces
AMERICUS, Ga. – The 2011-2012 Georgia Southwestern women's basketball team will welcome a handful of new faces to the Hurricane roster. The additions include prep players from around the state of Georgia and players with collegiate experience. The Lady 'Canes season is just around the corner, and they will kick things off on November 12th with a home game against Auburn-Montgomery at 4:00 p.m.
#34 Jessica Jones – Senior – 6'0" Forward
Originally from Chattanooga, Tennessee, Jones played last season at Mars Hill College in North Carolina. Head Coach Kelly Britsky expects Jones to pack a scoring punch. Her athleticism in the post is partnered with her guard-like quickness, which makes her difficult to guard.
#14 Adrian Randall – Junior – 6'2" Forward
Another college transfer for the Hurricanes, Randall is a Division I transfer after playing last season with Marshall University in West Virginia. She is a long and athletic post player who will give Coach Britsky a rebounding and shot blocking force in the paint and a post player who runs the court very well.
#44 Briana Walker – Junior – 5'10" Forward
The Memphis native played last season at Northwest Shoals Community College in Alabama. In addition to her athletic post-player frame, Walker brings great leadership and on-court presence to the Blue and Gold. Coach Britsky will look for Walker to use her deceptive speed and excellent rebounding game to be a factor for GSW.
#32 Alexandria Armah – Freshman – 5'10" Forward
Armah will join her teammates listed above as a post option for the Hurricanes next season. She is an in-state prep recruit from Dacula. Her presence in the post, mixed with her shooting range and ball handling , can make her a contributor.
# 22 Chelsea Brantley - Freshman – Forward
Hailing from Haddock, where she played at Jones County High, Brantley brings a serious amount of determination to the hardwood. The coaching staff loves her "bulldog mentality" that makes her aggressive and tough on top of being a good shooter.
#24 Jessica Burks – Freshman - 5'7" Guard
Burks comes to Americus after finishing her prep career at Monroe Comprehensive High in Albany. Described as an intelligent combo guard with the ability to shoot and handle the ball, Coach Britsky will look to Burks to be a quick learner and push the other guards on the team.
#23 Lashe Kirkland – Freshman – 5'10" Guard / Forward
Kirkland is another combination guard with excellent athleticism. Her ball handling skills allow her to create her own shot and allow her to excel in the open court. Her skill set has Coach Britsky looking to the Florida native to have an impact right away.
# 3 Kelli Morrow – Freshman – 5'5" Guard
This Haddock, Georgia native gives the Hurricanes another point guard. Her varied skill set includes great speed, good ball handling capabilities, ability to penetrate and very good shooting range. Coach Britsky believes the future is bright for this soon-to-be PBC point guard, and she will see plenty of time on the court in her first year.
