AMERICUS - Georgia Southwestern State University head women's basketball coach Kelly Britsky has announced the addition of Emili Russ to the Lady Hurricane squad for the 2014-15 season.
Russ signed with the Lady 'Canes after playing last season for Central Georgia Technical College in Macon. She will join the program in the fall with two years of eligibility remaining.
The 6-foot post player averaged 12.8 points per game and 7.1 rebounds last year to help lead CGTC to a 22-7 record and its first postseason win in program history.
Russ started all but two games in 2013-14 and recorded eight double-doubles. She scored 20 or more points on four occasions and had her best game of the season in the conference final four against Georgia Highlands College, scoring 17 points while grabbing 16 rebounds.
The Oxford, Ga. native was named to the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA) All-Conference Third Team, GCAA All-Tournament Team, as well as the GCAA All-Academic Team. In addition, she received the "CGTC Impact Award" which is given to the athlete of the year for the entire athletic department.
Russ and her Lady Hurricane teammates open the 2014-15 season at home on Nov. 15 against Selma University.
