AMERICUS - Georgia Southwestern State University head women's basketball coach Kelly Britsky has released the program's 2014-15 schedule which features 12 games at home, 12 on the road and two at neutral sites.
Southwestern opens the regular season with a pair of games inside the friendly confines of the GSW Storm Dome. The Lady Hurricanes entertain Selma University on Nov. 15 before Florida Southern comes to town on the 22nd.
Then it's off to Albany State for the Fourth Annual Peach Belt Conference-Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Challenge over Thanksgiving weekend. GSW faces ASU on the 29th and Fort Valley State the following afternoon.
New NAIA member Middle Georgia State College visits Americus for an inaugural matchup on Dec. 3. That's the Lady Hurricanes lone home game in the month of December.
GSW travels to Charlotte, N.C. to face Johnson C. Smith University on Dec. 5 and Belmont Abbey on the 6th.
Peach Belt Conference play ensues with a trip on the 18th to Augusta to take on Georgia Regents.
The Lady Hurricanes open 2015 with a stretch of three home games in five days. Southwestern hosts Montevallo on Jan. 3, Georgia College two days later and finally Columbus State on the 7th.
After a quick stop at Young Harris on Jan. 10, the Lady Hurricanes look to enjoy some more home cooking with three games in the Storm Dome over a 10-day stretch. Southwestern entertains Flagler on the Jan 14 and travels to USC Aiken on Jan. 17 before hosting Armstrong on the 19th and UNC Pembroke on the 24th.
From there the Lady 'Canes embark on their longest road trip of the conference season, a three-game stint that involves trips to Clayton State (Jan. 18), Columbus State (Jan. 31) and Montevallo (Feb. 4).
A Homecoming contest against Clayton State awaits GSW on Feb. 7. The Lady Hurricanes play North Georgia in the Storm Dome on Feb. 11, travel to Francis Marion on Feb. 14 and return for Senior Night on Feb. 18 against Young Harris.
In-state trips to Georgia College (Feb. 21) and North Georgia (Feb. 25) close out the regular season.
The Peach Belt Conference Tournament begins on Saturday, Feb. 28 with the top four teams in each of the two divisions qualifying for the postseason event. First round games will be hosted by the higher seeds. The semifinals and finals will be held Mar. 7-8 at the highest remaining seed out of the men's east division with the winner earning the conference's automatic bid into the NCAA National Tournament.
The Lady Hurricanes return three of their top four scorers and their top three rebounders from last year's 9-17 squad, including team leader Shanedra Lockett (14.3 ppg, 6.7 rpg) and fellow seniors Shatoria Hudson (10.9 ppg, 5.5 rpg) and Tiara Thompson (10.7 ppg, 4.7 rpg).
