AMERICUS - Georgia Southwestern State University head women's basketball coach Kelly Britsky has announced the addition of Kenyona Armstrong to the Lady Hurricane squad for the 2014-15 season.
Armstrong signed with the Lady 'Canes after playing her sophomore season at St. Petersburg College in St. Petersburg, Fla. The 5-foot-8 guard helped the Lady Titans win the 2013-14 Southern Conference Championship with a 13-2 conference mark and a 24-7 overall record. Armstrong had a career-high 20 points on Nov. 26, 2013, against the College of Central Florida.
Before St. Petersburg, Armstrong played a season for fellow Peach Belt Conference member Lander University where she started four games and appeared in 19 contests during the 2012-13 season. Armstrong was on both the PBC Presidential Honor Roll and the freshman academic honors list at Lander.
The Warner Robins, Ga. native was named Georgia High School Association (GHSA) Region 1-AAAA Player of the Year, GHSA Class AAAA First Team All-State, Atlanta Journal Constitution Class AAAA Second Team All-State, First Team All-Middle Georgia and Sun News Player of the Year during her senior year at Warner Robins High School. Armstrong is the all-time leading scorer at WRHS with 1585 points and has the most points in a single season with 612. Her senior year she led the team in points (21.1 ppg), rebounds (6.7 rpg) and steals (3.0 spg).
Armstrong and her GSW teammates open the 2014-15 season at home on Nov. 15 against Selma University.
