VALDOSTA, Ga. - The Georgia Southwestern women's soccer team fell behind 2-0 in the opening half at Valdosta State on Thursday evening and could not recover as VSU handed the Lady Hurricanes a 6-0 defeat in the season opener for both schools.
Christening a brand new facility in front of more than 1,500 fans, the Lady Blazers jumped ahead of GSW early when Hannah Mulkey knocked in a header off an assist from Emily Cooper.
VSU added a score in the 36th minute to take a 2-0 lead into the halftime break.
The Lady Blazers extended their lead to 3-0 less than nine minutes into the second half and posted late scores (75th, 81st and 86th minutes) to put a cap on the evening.
Southwestern returns to Valdosta on Saturday for a 7 p.m. match with Queens University of Charlotte to conclude the VSU Tri-Conference Challenge.
