Clipped by Clayton
MORROW, Ga. – Just four days after their hard-fought 1-0 loss at USC Aiken, the Georgia Southwestern women's soccer team was looking for a mid-week PBC win against Clayton State (7-5-0, 3-3-0 PBC). Wednesday games hadn't been good to the Hurricanes, and the trip to the home of Lakers would prove to be anything but kind.
Clayton State would tally their first goal of the night in the 37th minute when Natalia Valentine would score her ninth goal of the season off the assist from teammate Luisa Alvarez. The Lady Lakers would strike again in the first half. A Josephine Holsten – Dior McGruder combination would register the game's second goal with under three minutes to play in the half.
The Lakers would tally an insurance goal within the first fifteen minutes of the second half. The goal came off the foot of Becky Brown off a feed from teammate Elisa Gyllin off a Clayton State corner kick. The Lakers' third goal of the game would be the last of the night as Clayton State would walk away with the 3-0 victory.
Wednesday night's loss would take the Georgia Southwestern record to 3-10-0 (0-5-0 PBC). Coach Economopoulos and company will be back in action this weekend for a special home doubleheader versus Lander. Saturday will be the "Think Pink!" The GSW women will wear white and pink tops with pink shorts in support of cancer awareness. Pink soccer balls will be used during the women's match. Fans are encouraged to wear pink in support of the event as well.
Commemorative pink t-shirts are available in the GSW bookstore for $10 with the entire purchase price benefiting Susan G. Komen for the Cure. The t-shirts will be available for purchase at the field on Saturday. Concessions revenue from the women's match will be donated to Komen while proceeds from the men's match will go to the Southwest Georgia Cancer Coalition. Admission is free, but donations will be collected. The women's match starts at 1 p.m. with the men to follow at 3:30 p.m.
