GSW Soccer Honored for Sportsmanship
AMERICUS - The Georgia Southwestern men's and women's soccer teams were acknowledged by the Peach Belt Conference today as the 2012 Team Sportsmanship Award winners for their respective sports.
The PBC presents one such award for each of its 13 championship sports, as voted on by the other teams in each particular sport.
This continues GSW's strong reputation for sportsmanship as the women's soccer and men's tennis teams won the award last year.
This is the third year that the women's soccer team has garnered the team sportsmanship award (2009, 2011, 2012) in the five year history of the awards program.
The PBC Sportsmanship Award program presents an award following
each championship season to the team in that sport that best
exemplifies the spirit of sportsmanship and generally conducts
themselves with a high degree of integrity, character and class.
Points are awarded based on how each team finished in the voting
and in June, the institution with the highest totals will receive
the 'PBC Institution of the Year Sportsmanship Award.'
The league's Senior Administrators oversee the program.
