Prior to joining GSW, Kaplan was the men's and women's soccer coach at Andrew College in Cuthburt, GA. At Andrew, Kaplan got both soccer teams back on the winning track in two years. The women's club went from winning two games and scoring just four goals one season to 12 wins and more than 70 goals along with six All-Region players and Kaplan was named GJCAA Soccer Coach of the year. The men's program also emerged as a contender in conference along with goalkeeper Joe Nasco being name NJCAA All-American. Prior to coaching at Andrew, Kaplan was the Director of Soccer Operations for the Miami Fusion, one of the original franchises of Major League Soccer from its inception in 1998. "It was both the most exciting and the most frustrating time," said Kaplan. "It was frustrating from a business side because the team folded. But it was exciting because we had built a very good team." "Being able to work with Fusion Head Coaches Cacho Cordova, Evo Wortman and Ray Hudson was fantastic. Each of them had very different styles and approaches to the game." Kaplan also served as soccer coach at St. Thomas University, an NAIA school also in Miami, for eight years where he oversaw the reinstatement of the program after a 8 year hiatus. At St. Thomas, he was a four-time Coach of the Year, and he received a Master's of Science in Sports Administration in 1993. In addition, Kaplan oversaw the start-up of the program at Nova Southeastern University in Ft. Lauderdale, FL from 1985 - 1988. Coach Kaplan is married to the former Mona Weber and lives in Albany, GA with their two children Marc (18) and Paige (12) and their dog Bandit.
