Beard Hired as Head Cross Country Coach

Tripp Beard has been hired as the head coach for women's cross country at Georgia Southwestern State University.

Beard takes over the head coaching position following the departure of Allyson Reel, who resigned earlier this month to pursue other interests.

Beard comes to GSW from Crisp County (Ga.) High School, where he served as an assistant track and field coach in 2006 and 2007.  In addition to his duties with the GSW Hurricane cross country program, Beard will serve as the assistant coach of Lady ‘Canes women's basketball.

"This is a tremendous opportunity," Beard said.  "I look forward to having a great season and building on the foundation that Coach Reel has put in place."

A 2003 graduate of GSW, with a degree in sociology, Beard has returned to campus in pursuit of a physical education degree.

Beard is a native of Unadilla, Ga.  While attending Fullington Academy in Pinehurst, Ga., he competed in track and field and basketball.

Beard currently resides in Americus.
