Lady Hurricanes' season ends at conference meet

LUMBERTON, N.C. - The GSW cross country team finished 11th on Saturday at the Peach Belt Conference championship meet, hosted by UNC Pembroke, as seniors Krystal Thomas, Cherrelle Pullen and Laura Southwell completed their careers with the Lady Hurricanes.

Juawana Stringer led the way for Southwestern, finishing the 6,000-meter race at Luther Britt Park 57th with a time of 28:15.63. Stringer improved her time by 3:19 from the season-opening race ran on the same course in September. 

Katy York (30:30.54), Britney Lewis (30:39.36) and Thomas (31:19.31) took the 63rd-65th slots.  Pullen (33:31.46) and Southwell (34:02.99) finished 69th and 71st, respectively.

Lewis and Thomas also saw marked improvement from the season-opening meet as Lewis shaved 3:09 off her time and Thomas was 2:37 faster.

Columbus University finished with 37 points to take the team title. Georgia College was a distant second (87).

Naomi Tanui from CSU crossed the finish line first with a time of 22:26.71, followed by teammate Brittney Skiles (23:01.28). Columbus State had four runners finish in the top eight.
