GSW's Young Concludes Season on a Strong Note
Queens, N.C. - Georgia Southwestern cross country standout Jessi Young concluded a successfull 2012-13 campaign with a strong showing at the NCAA Division II Southeast Region Cross Country Champions this past Saturday in Queens, N.C.
Young, the first-ever GSW runner to compete in the regional championships, finished in 30th place out of 182 runners with a time of 23:50.83. Young finished just shy of earning All-Region accolades that went to the top 25 runners.
Fellow Peachbelt Conference foe Columbus State finished first in the team standings with a total time of 1:57.43. Montevallo's Kelsey Glover took the top spot in the individual competition with a finishing time of 22:40.39.
Coming off a strong first season with the Hurricanes, Young was honored as the 2012 Peachbelt Conference Freshman of the Year following an eighth place finish at the Peachbelt Conference Championships.
First year GSW head coach Brittney Skiles was pleased with the progress Young made throughout the season.
"Young had a great first-year experience running cross country with us this season. Every race was a great race for her," said Skiles. " I'm really looking forward to seeing how much she accomplishes next year."
Coming off GSW's best ever finish at the Peachbelt Conference Championships and Young's strong showing at the Regional Championships, The 2012 season proved successful for first-year Georgia Southwestern head coach Brittney Skiles.
"Overall, my first season as the GSW head coach was a great experience, I couldn't have asked for a better group of girls."
