WEST POINT, Ga. - The Georgia Southwestern cross country team finished in seventh place out of 12 teams at the Point Invitational hosted by Point University on Friday evening. Ashleigh Owens paced the Lady Hurricanes by finishing the 5K course in 20:34 for 19th place out of 97 competitors.
Shelby Parsekian crossed the finish line second for GSW with a time of 21:42, good for 39th place, while Lauren Ard was the third GSW runner across the line in 21:57. Daria Woods, the only GSW runner on the roster who raced in this event last year, shaved 18 seconds off her 2013 time and finished 50th overall on Friday by finishing in 22:08. Anna Kate Shaw took 63rd in 23:47 and Anneliese Leahy posted a time of 24:04. Victoria Hickom pulled out of the race for medical reasons.
With 39 points, the host Point University edged Brenau University (58) for the team title.
Rebecca Guadiana from Point crossed the finish line first overall with a time of 18:41.
The Lady Hurricanes return to action Saturday, Oct. 11, when they travel to Carrollton for the UWG Wolves Cross Country Invitational at the University of West Georgia Athletic Complex.
