The Georgia Southwestern baseball team won their sixth-straight
non-conference game on Wednesday afternoon with an 11-8 victory
over Auburn University at Montgomery at the AUM Baseball Complex.
Every GSW batter reached base safely at least once in the game.
In addition, the Hurricanes had three players finish with three
hits apiece as the team tallied 16 in the contest.
Trent Dooley put GSW on the board in the first when he singled
in Bud Long, who opened the game with a walk - Long has been
walked five times in the last two games, including two free passes
against AUM.
After Auburn Montgomery tied the score in the bottom of the
frame, GSW erupted for a four-run second inning, highlighted by an
RBI single from Beau Parker, an RBI double by Chris Lingham and a
two-run single by Zack Stanton.
AUM responded with a run in second, two in the third, one in the
fourth and two more in the fifth to open a 7-5 advantage.
Paschel Poston led off the sixth with a solo home run to start
the GSW comeback. With two outs, Parker singled, advanced on an
error and was brought around to score on a Long single to center
field.
The Hurricanes took the lead for good in the seventh when they
posted another four-run frame. Byron Haynes and Shane Doyle
collected RBI singles in the inning.
Auburn Montgomery (13-16) added a run in the ninth to round out
the scoring.
GSW hurler Corey Hawes (2-0) tossed two scoreless innings of
relief to pick up the win. Hawes held AUM to one hit while walking
one and striking out one.
The Senators brought seven pitchers to the hill and Jared
Fonesca (2-3), who faced three batters, took the loss. He gave up
three hits and three runs.
The Hurricanes (16-7) host Flagler College in a Peach Belt
Conference weekend series beginning Friday at 6 p.m.
