AMERICUS, Ga. -- The Georgia Southwestern State University men's soccer team opened its 2024 season with a 6-0 victory over Middle Georgia State University on Thursday night at Hurricane Field as part of the annual Under the Lights season kickoff celebration. Newcomer Kynu Samuels led GSW with a pair of goals. Alexander Lozano added a goal and an assist in front of the school-record crowd of more than 800 fans.
The Hurricanes held a 2-0 lead at the break while holding the Knights without a shot over the opening 45 minutes. GSW led 4-0 by the 58th minute and tacked on a pair of goals late to finish with the program's most goals scored in match since Sept. 25, 2019 and the second-most scored all-time.
GSW freshman goalkeeper Noah Kasin made three saves and turned in a clean sheet in his collegiate debut. The Hurricanes had four players put multiple shots on goal.
Next up is a trip to Daytona Beach, Fla. on Saturday for a 7 p.m. non-conference match at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (1-0).
