AMERICUS, Ga. — A furious late rally from the Georgia Southwestern men's soccer team came up just short on Saturday night, as the Hurricanes fell 4-3 to North Georgia in a Peach Belt Conference battle at Hurricane Field.
Junior Axel-Ambroise Gravel got the Hurricanes on the board early, finishing in the ninth minute off an assist from Jonathan Bedard to give GSW a 1-0 lead. The Nighthawks answered with three straight goals to grab momentum and entered halftime ahead 3-1.
North Georgia added a fourth goal in the 79th minute, but the Hurricanes refused to back down. Senior striker Cesar Rubio-Amaya buried a penalty kick in the 82nd minute, then struck again five minutes later to pull GSW within one. Despite controlling possession in the final minutes and matching UNG in total shots (11-11), the Hurricanes couldn't find the equalizer before the final whistle.
